The First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville seeks to glorify God by showing God's love and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. You can become a member by profession of your faith, a reaffirmation of your faith, or a letter of transfer from another congregation. A Message from Our Pastor

Dear Friends:

Every year we journey through the season of Lent, before we celebrate our redemption through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a time to prepare for this celebration and to renew our life in the paschal mystery. We begin our journey to Easter with the sign of ashes. This ancient sign speaks of the frailty and uncertainty of human life, and marks the penitence of our community. We thus begin the holy season of Lent by acknowledging our need for repentance, and for the mercy and forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lent is observed by a forty-day season of prayer, fasting, reflection, and repentance culminating with the celebration of Easter. It is a time to cause us to meditate on our lives of prayer as we open our lives for the celebration of Easter.

You are invited to observe a holy Lent by prayer and works of love, by reading and meditating on the Word of God.

We will have an Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 22, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. We will also have a time of prayer and meditation each Wednesday during the Season of Lent at 6:30 p.m.
